PhDs are a commonly-used measure of research activity because highly-trained people are an important product of the research base. But there are no weightings to be entered by you for the PhDs metric. This simply counts the number of PhDs awarded by the institution in the specified discipline and are drawn from the HESA student record for the relevant subject of study for 2002-2006.
